Travel
39 countries and three years living overseas. Travel taught me more about people, money and gratitude than any classroom.
Why I travel
Serving in Haiti with the Air Force showed me how much we take for granted at home. I’ve never stopped wanting to see how the rest of the world lives.
Since then I’ve been to 39 countries and spent three years living overseas. Every trip reminds me why I work the way I do: so I have the freedom to keep exploring.

What travel taught me
My first real look at the world came in uniform. Serving as a UN peacekeeper in Haiti, working beside forces from many countries, I saw how much of what we take for granted at home is a privilege. That experience changed how I think about money, gratitude and opportunity.
Since then, I’ve visited 39 countries and spent three years living overseas. Every place teaches something different: how other cultures work, eat, save, build businesses and take care of family. You come home seeing your own life more clearly.
Travel and freedom
For me, travel is one of the clearest reasons to build wealth. Owning your time means you can go when you want, stay longer and say yes to the experiences that matter. That’s the same freedom I write about in my books: not more stuff, but more choices.
Travel also makes you better at business. Meeting people from different backgrounds teaches you to listen, adapt and find common ground, skills that help with clients, teams and partners anywhere.
Seeing the world through service
In the Air Force, I served at installations around the world alongside every branch of the U.S. military, and with the forces of many other countries in joint operations. Working shoulder to shoulder with people from different nations, languages and traditions toward one mission taught me that most people want the same things: safety, opportunity and a better life for their families.
That lesson still shapes how I travel today. I go to learn, not just to sightsee, and I come home grateful.
Santorini, Greece
Santorini is one of my favorite places to slow down. The whitewashed terraces, the blue domes and the view over the Aegean Sea remind me why I work hard: to make room for moments like that.

Travel and money
Travel doesn’t have to wait until retirement, and it shouldn’t go on a credit card you can’t pay off. The same habits I teach for building wealth work for seeing the world:
Build the habit, and the trips follow. You’ll find more on these habits in my books and on the Wealth Education page.
